Dead Sea to New 7 Wonders Competition

The Dead Sea will make the list of candidates for the new “Seven Wonders of the World” competition, following the Palestinian submission, added last night to the Israeli and the Jordanian ones. The New7Wonders Foundation, which is behind the New7Wonders campaigns, has the express aim of undertaking documentation and conservation works of monuments worldwide under the motto: “OUR HERITAGE IS OUR FUTURE”.
While the nomination and possible selection of the Dead Sea is not directly related to Highlight Films documentary coproduction “Dead Sea Dying”, we will obviously deal with tourism, health issues and other aspects of the Dead Sea. In the next few months we will launch and maintain a dedicated web site of the Dead Sea Dying production. If you are interested in getting updates about the production, please use this link to email us.

Breaking news: access to 1900 years old papyrus theft in Israel

Breaking news story - now in production.

Highlight is currently producing a TV report about two Palestinians who allegedly have stolen an ancient document from the 2nd century A. D. and attempted to sell it in Israel.

Highlight Films has special interview access as well as footage of the document.

More about the story:

The document, six inches by six inches (15 centimeters by 15 centimeters), contains 15 lines of Hebrew characters of a type also used in the Dead Sea Scrolls, but is a legal text apparently unrelated to the more famous scrolls.

In this document, a widow named Miriam, daughter of Yaakov, legally transfers property to her late husband’s brother, said Amir Ganor, an archaeologist with the government department entrusted with fighting antiquities theft.

Dated to the 2nd century A.D., it is unique because it includes the names of Jewish villages and a date — “four years from the destruction of the house of Israel.” Ganor said that was likely an allusion to a Jewish revolt put down violently by Rome around 135 A.D. (Source: AP)
